Kent Premier League
10th November 2007
Beckenham Town 1 Lordswood 1
Lordswood came away from Eden Park with a creditable draw against a team with aspirations to win the League.
The game could not have started as badly for Lordswood as in the 1st minute a long ball forward found Theo Fairweather- Johnson in the area
and his shot came back off the post but in the very next minute another long ball saw Rowen call for it so Adam Douglas left it but Fairweather-Johnson
nipped in and went around Rowen and from an acute angle shot home despite a sterling effort from Lewis Taylor to clear. In the 6th minute Durrant and
Ebanks combined leaving Ebanks on his own in the area and his shot went over the bar. After this hesitant start Lordswood started to get into the game but
Beckenham were still dangerous and in the 21st minute a ball into the area saw Fairweather-Johnson’s shot saved by Rowen at the second attempt despite
Lenny Piper at his feet attempting to score. In the 25th minute Lordswood got their first chance when Adrian Bagshaw’s cross saw the Beckenham Keeper
Chris Lewington punch clear but only to Jamie Taylor on the edge of the area and his shot was headed of the line by Danny Lawson and then they got a
deserved equaliser when in the 43rd minute Craig Beckwith on the edge of the area decided to shoot and luckily for him his shot saw Scott Bucklen react
quickly as he headed past Lewington.
The second half saw Beckenham come out the quickest but it took them 14 minutes to create a chance and Fairweather-Johnson was put
through into the area and his shot beat Rowen but also the post. In the 64th minute Mark Vernon cut inside and from 25 yards saw his shot saved at the
second attempt and two minutes later Lewis Taylor came to Lordswood’s rescue when he cleared a header from a corner off the line and his clearance was
immediately shot back hitting the post before being cleared. In the 79th minute a Lewis Taylor free kick to Darren Marsden who passed inside to Craig
Beckwith and his shot from 25 yards went just wide of the post, another chance came two minutes later when Lewis Taylor running forward saw his effort go
just over the bar and then in the 86th minute Jamie Taylor in a breakaway ran forward into the area before shooting but Lewington saved it. The last few
minutes saw Lordswood defend as if their lives were dependant on it as Beckenham threw everything at them but they survived and deservedly so for the
football they played was just as good as Beckenham’s.
