Kent Premier League
26th April 2008
Lordswood 0 Beckenham Town 0
Lordswood’s last home game of a disappointing season saw a battling performance
against a team who were battling for the title a couple of weeks ago. The first half belonged
to Beckenham as they showed what a good football team they are but Lordswood stood their ground
and with a bit of luck came in level at halftime. The game started slowly but in the 16th
minute Tony Atkins was played through and his chip was blocked by an advancing Rowan outside of
the area with a shout for handball but only a corner was given. In the very next minute a ball
across the area saw Atkins about to shoot when Alec Osborne came across and blocked his shot.
In the 23rd minute Lordswood had a rare chance when a free kick fell at Alan Backshall’s feet
and his first time shot from 25 yards went just past the post. Beckenham nearly took the lead
in the 29th minute when a free kick into the area was blocked came out and the next shot was
deflected by Adrian Bagshaw into the path of Theo Fairweather but from six yards his shot went
wide. Another chance came in the 38th minute when a quick free kick into the area was half
cleared to Atkins whose shot went high and wide.
The second half was a different story as Lordswood came out and gave it a go
and in the 50th minute Alec Osborne’s through ball to Adrian Bagshaw saw Adrian stretching for
it but his cross shot beat the advancing keeper but unfortunately Adam Whitnal at the back post
was not able to knock in. Four minutes later keeper Grant Hall miskicked to Adam Whitnal whose
flicked shot saw Hall amble back and collect the ball on the line. This woke Beckenham up and
in the 57th minute Fairweather put Atkins in and his shot was saved by Rowan for a corner.
Another chance for Lordswood came in the 63rd minute when a Luke Blanshard corner was met by
Lewis Finbow but his header went over the bar. 9 minutes later Alec Osborne passed forward to
Alan Blackshall who’s first time shot from 25 yards was deflected just by the post for a corner.
Beckenham in the last 15 minutes threw everything at Lordswood trying to secure second place
when in the 87th minute Atkins in the area was just about to shoot when Alec Osborne came
across and blocked his shot and in the 89th minute Jemmott crossed to the back post for Atkins
and his header was pushed away by Rowan and rebound fell at Atkins feet but again Rowan saved it.
