F.A Cup Extra Preliminary Round
18th August 2007
Lordswood 1 Bookham FC 1
Lordswood’s dream of FA Cup glory continues after an 81st minute equaliser ensured a replay at Dorking on Tuesday night.
The game started disastrously for Lordswood as in the 2nd minute they went one down when a free kick on the edge of the area was passed to
Steve Douglas who turned and shot past Steve Williams. In the 16th minute it could have been worse as Douglas again in the area was left free and his angled
shot went across the goal but with no one up with him to stab home. Lordswood were still in the dressing room and it took until the 24th minute to make their
first chance when a free kick into the area saw Adam Douglas 8 yards out flicked header go just wide. In the 37th minute Gary Martin saw his free kick
deflected for a corner and from the corner to the near post Douglas got his head to it forcing Paul Best to save it for a corner. Just before half time Ryan
Lock going forward saw his 40 yard effort sail over Steve Williams but luckily for Lordswood it went just over the bar. Half time arrived and being only one
down there was still a chance of rescuing the tie.
The second half saw a different Lordswood as they suddenly found their form and it all changed when David Abe came on. In the 50th minute
David Abe turned and saw his shot from 25 yards go wide but later on it would be different. Three minutes later Gary Martin on the left saw his cross just
miss Craig Beckwith in the 6 yard area and it was scrambled clear. Another chance came in the 58th minute when Matt McHugh was put in by David Abe and he ran
on into the area before shooting but Paul Best saved with his legs. Bookham had been on the back foot for the entire second half so far but in the 65th
minute they should have sewn the game up when a free kick 25 yards out was deflected into the path of Daniel Oliver who from 6 yards stubbed his shot goal
wards but Williams got down and pushed it around the post. Another half chance came Bookham’s way in the 74th minute when Jordan Buche 30 yards out saw his
shot dip over Williams but did not come down enough as it hit the crossbar.
After these two wake up calls Lordswood kept plugging away and in the 82 minute Lee Martin raced through into the area and went round Paul
Best and was just about to shoot into the empty net when Paul Farrell came across and fouled him to give a penalty away and he saw himself sent off. David Abe
stepped up and drove it straight down the middle to equalise. In the dying minutes Lordswood especially David Abe had a couple of chances to steal the game
but to no avail and both sides will play again on Tuesday night at Dorking.
