Carlsberg F.A.Vase 1st Qualifying Round
22nd September 2007
Cobham 3 Lordswood 1
This was a game of two halves as Lordswood succumbed to the Cobham revival. The first 15 minutes saw both sides looking at each other but
then Lordswood started to dominate as in the 16th minute they were unlucky not to score when the ball on the edge of the area on the left saw Gary Martin
pass to Martin Difede who quickly turned and saw his shot beat the keeper Nick McGregor but not the post. In the 21st minute Lordswood took the lead when a
Gary Martin corner to the far post was met by Lee Skinner 6 yards out unopposed and his header hit the back of the net. In a rare attack Cobham nearly equalised when Dan Summers got to the by-line on the right and his low cross saw Marcus Rose 8 yards out miss his kick. Three minutes later a free kick into the Lordswood area was cleared to the edge of the area where Dan Summers was and his shot went high and wide. In the 32nd minute came a contentious decision by the Referee when Gary Martin’s long ball caught the Cobham defence out and Lee Farrell chased it and the keeper came out and they collided in the area and most people were expecting a penalty to be given but the referee had other ideas and gave a free kick to Cobham. Four minutes later another long ball by Gary Martin saw Lee Farrell latch onto it but his shot from 20 yards under pressure went over the bar. Another glorious chance came in the 39th minute when Gary martin crossed the ball forward to Martin Difede whose cushion header for Lee Farrell whose volley went wide. Cobham had one last chance before half time when in the 42nd minute a corner was cleared but only to Dan Summers who’s shot from
20 yards went high and wide.
The second half started slowly but in the 56th minute Cobham were level when a corner into the middle of the six yard box was headed out
but straight to Dan Summers who smashed it in, the game was now changing. Five minutes later another corner came in and Stefan punched clear to edge of
area and Dylan Merkett shot over the bar. In the 65th minute a rare Lordswood attack saw Lucas Allegro who had just come on speed down the left wing and
his cross was met Lee Farrell but his header was easily saved by McGregor. Another chance came Lordswood’s way in the 68th minute when a quick throw in
put Lee Farrell in and he went into the area before shooting but it was deflected for a corner. The killer blow came in the 76th minute when a needless
free kick was given away and it was knocked into the area and bobbled around the area before Andrew Dalehouse latched onto it and shot home. Lordswood
now needed to reply quickly and in the 77th minute Lucas down the left crossed into the area for Jamie Taylor who from 10 yards saw his volley go just
over the bar. Another chance came in the 80th minute when Lee Farrell’s corner to the backpost was met by Danny Malone but from 6 yards saw his header
go wide and then in the 86th minute Marcus Rose on the left got to the by-line and his cross was met Dalehouse but he headed over but a minute later he
wrapped the game up when the ball in the area and he swivelled and toe poked the ball past Stefan from 6 yards.
