Kent Premier League
8th December 2006
Croydon 0 Lordswood 2
Lordswood got their second win in a row with a dogged display against a team in form and this would be Lordswood’s first victory over the
Trams. The game started off well for Lordswood when in the 6th minute a quick free kick set Martin Difede off and his low cross into the six yard box saw
Mark Vernon miss his kick when it seemed a goal was begging. Lordswood took the lead when Craig Beckwith in midfield passed to Martin who once in the area
looked up and passed sideways for Mark who from 12 yards stroked home. Croydon suddenly realised they were in a game and two minutes later a cross to the
back post saw Matt Knuckley head goalwards but Luke Mortimer got back and cleared off the line. In the 27th minute another Lordswood attack nearly got them
a goal when Adam Douglas combined with Craig Beckwith and then passed to Mark who turned the defender and his curling shot from 20 yards forced John Henry
into a save. Croydon then came back and in the 31st minute a free kick from 20 yards was shot just wide of the post by Bronek Dabrowa. Croydon had another
chance come in the 36th minute when a corner into the area saw Chris Hill head just over the bar. Another chance came in the 41st minute when a long cross
to the back post saw Neil John stretching hook his shot goalwards but it went just wide. Lordswood nearly increased their lead when a bad back pass put
Martin in and he raced on into the area and he flicked the ball over the onrushing keeper but Chris Hill got back and cleared off the line then in the 45th
minute Lordswood should have increased their lead when Martin wide on the right crossed into the area and found Mark who from 6 yards under no pressure
shot wide.
The second half started with Croydon on the attack and in the 46th minute Ross Cable received the ball turned went forward and his shot
from 20 yards was saved by Rowen Arnott, in the very next minute Steven McNamara ran forward from halfway and his shot from 25 yards was pushed around the
post by Rowen for a corner and then in the next minute Neil John in the area passed to Ross Cable who stretching saw his shot go wide. Lordswood somehow
survived this onslaught and then started to get back into the game when in the 51st minute a Rowen long clearance saw Mark flick it on for Martin who
latched onto it and flicked the ball over the onrushing keeper but it went agonisingly wide. In the 56th minute Croydon went down to 10 players when Stefan
Cox was sent off for kicking out at Adam Douglas. In the 64th minute Lordswood doubled their lead when Adam Douglas passed forward for Martin who on
the edge of the area turned and shot home. Two minutes later Croydon nearly got a goal back when a ball into the area saw Ross Cable’s shot saved by Rowen
and the ball came out to Neil John whose shot was deflected out for a corner. The very next minute Lordswood nearly went further ahead when a bad back pass
saw Mark pass to Martin whose chip beat the keeper but came back off the cross bar and then in the last three minutes Croydon had a couple of half chances
to score when in the 83rd minute Ross Cable running forward was his shot from 20 yards pushed around the post by Rowen then in the 89th minute a long ball
forward saw Cable in the area but from 6 yards unopposed shot wide. The final whistle went and Lordswood take home the three points and overall deserved it.
