Kent Premier League

13th January 2007
Croydon  1   Lordswood  0

Lordswood came to the Arena with high hopes of pulling of a shock against the form team in the Division but would come away pointless rueing the chances that went away.

The game started brightly for Lordswood as in the 4th minute Gavin kicked long into Croydon’s half where Stuart Harrison flicked on to Gary East who passed into space for Stuart and his first time shot was saved by Danny Harwood’s legs. Three minutes later Adam Ling on the left crossed to the far post where Aaron Burrett was and his powerful header was pushed away by Harwood. Croydon supposedly were the form team but up until the twentieth minute they looked out of sorts but in the 21st minute Rhoderique Davis running down the right crossed to the far post where Ryan Watts was but his shot went wide of the post but two minutes later Croydon against the run of play scored when Stuart Read on the right crossed into the area forcing Gavin to come for it but he palmed the ball away straight at Ryan Watts who shot home. After this the rest of the half saw both sides giving the ball away until the 45th minute Davis down the right got to the by-line crossed into the area for Neil John whose shot was palmed away by Gavin.

The second half started slowly but Lordswood had to sub Adam Ling who had been injured in the first half after some robust challenges. In the 68th minute Croydon nearly increased their lead when a long ball forward was allowed to bounce into the area and Matt Fowler latched on to it but his lob over Gavin hit the top of the net. Lordswood came back into the game and nearly equalised but luck went against them when a corner to the back post was headed goalwards by Andy Forster but it came back off the line via Gary East, then in the 85th minute Andy Forster nearly scored again when Harwood’s clearance under pressure went straight to Andy whose shot from 40 yards was going in until Chris Hill running back some how scissor kicked away for a corner. Croydon had survived this scare and in the 87th minute they nearly doubled their lead when a corner curling in was headed off the line by Andy Mills.
