Kent Premier League Cup Group C
13th October 2007
Croydon FC 2 Lordswood 0
Lordswood put on a battling display in defeat after playing 79 minutes with only ten men after Martin Difede was sent off with only the
Referee seeing the stamp on the defender as both players leapt for the ball and Martin came down on him. The game had started brightly for Lordswood but
disaster struck in the 11th minute when Martin Difede challenging for a ball with the defender saw both of them fall down but the Referee saw Martin stamp
on the defender as they both fell and decided to send him off. It was now backs to the wall for Lordswood but they showed good discipline and in the 22nd
minute a long ball forward by Adam Douglas found Lee Farrell who was leading the line on his own and he chested it down in the area and his shot was
deflected for a corner. In the 25th minute a defining moment in the game arrived as a Lewis Taylor free kick swung in low saw the goalkeeper Tim Roberts
palm it away but not one Lordswood player was their to capitalise on it and six minutes later Croydon went ahead when a free kick into the area missed
Kevin Gray but Danny Malone behind him got a flick to it and it beat Rowen Arnott. The rest of the half saw Lordswood look reasonably safe as Croydon
did not hammer home their one man advantage.
The second half started with Lordswood still looking safe and even having a go and in the 47th minute Lee Farrell saw his shot from 20
yards saved at the second attempt by Roberts. A great chance for Lordswood to increase their lead came in the 65th minute when Alec Osborne put Lee Farrell
through and although his shirt was pulled by the last defender he carried on but his shot from 18 yards was easily saved by Roberts. The sting came in the
75th minute when Kwabena Amaning on the left got free and his low cross in to the 6 yard box was missed by everyone but Danny Beszant on the far post and
his miss hit shot was deflected into the net by Rowen’s knee. The game was now over for Lordswood but to their credit they did not let their heads drop
but in the 87th minute it could have been three when a cross into the area saw Luke Whittaker Jones header from 15 yards turned over the bar by Rowen and
then in the 90th minute the Referee evened the numbers up when he sent off Bronek Dabrowa.
