Kent Premier League Cup Group C
3rd November 2007
Lordswood 1 Croydon 1
Lordswood got out of jail today as Croydon spurned numerous chances to win and then in the 95th minute Lordswood equalised when if it had
been a boxing match the referee would have stopped it. Another positive for Lordswood was it was their first goal scored against Croydon in four attempts
and maybe now they can pick it up with a performance next week at Beckenham.
The game started with Croydon on the front foot and in the 10th minute a ball played into the area saw Luke Whittaker-Jones volley over the
bar. In the 23rd minute Chouda Groblhar received the ball 25 yards out and his shot was pushed around the post by Rowen Arnott for a corner. Lordswood’s
first half chance came in the 26th minute when a throw to Lee Farrell saw him turn his marker and his looping shot went just over the bar. Croydon
eventually took the lead in the 29th minute when a ball played forward to Sam Ayiva was controlled, turned and shot home from 15 yards. Another chance
came in the 32nd minute when Ayiva on edge of area passed to Neil John who from 6 yards shot wide under pressure. Lordswood escaped in the 40th minute when
Groblhar saw his shot come back off the post and another shot was blocked by a Croydon player before it was scrambled clear. Gary Martin nearly scored in
the 42nd minute when his free kick from 28 yards went just wide and in the next minute Rowen came to Lordswood’s rescue when a long throw into the area
found Groblhar whose shot was saved by Rowen.
Croydon carried on where they left off and in the 51st minute Matt Knuckley dribbled his way into the area before passing to Neil John but
his shot from 6 yards went wide. Three minutes later a free kick wide on the left swung in forcing Rowen to push the ball over the bar. Another chance came
in the 64th minute when a corner to the near post saw Chris Hill’s flicked shot deflected over the bar. Croydon were dominating the game and then the sting
in the tail came late into injury time when the Referee gave a penalty for Lordswood for pushing and up stepped the skipper Adam Douglas who shot into the
bottom right hand corner.
