Kent Premier League
17th October 2006
Erith & Belvedere 3 Lordswood 4
This game was a great advert for Kent League football and for the neutral had everything, but Paul will just be glad Lordswood took the
three points when it seemed it might be only one or maybe none.
The first twenty five minutes were quiet and you would not believe what would happen in the last 70 minutes as first Lordswood took control
of the game when in the 27th minute Mike McKenna in on goal controlled the ball and saw his shot came back of the post from an acute angle and evaded the
two Lordswood players waiting for the rebound but three minutes later a gem of a goal from Gary East his first for the club when he controlled the ball and
from 25 yards out saw his shot sail over the keeper into the net but a minute later he surpassed that when received the ball 25 yards out on the right and
chipped the keeper. In the 40th minute Erith escaped when Mike McKenna was put in on goal by Dave Forster and he beat a couple of defenders but saw his
shot across goal hit the post.
The second half saw Erith come out with vigour and press Lordswood back and it was no surprise when they got a goal back the 53rd minute
when Leon Braithwaite’s shot was parried away by Gavin but straight to Ian Hilaire who from 10 yards slotted in. A minute later they nearly equalised when
Matt Redford coming forward saw his 30-yard pile driver go just past the post. Erith were getting closer to an equaliser and in the 59th minute a corner
to the edge of the area was volleyed by Matt Johnson just past the post. The sucker punch came in the 68th minute when Michael Scowen on the right decided
to pass across the goal and Gary East like most good forwards was waiting and collected it and side footed past the keeper from 6 yards for his hat trick.
Erith came back again and in the 78th minute a ball forward caught Lordswood out and Daryl Wilson latched on to it and shot past Gavin. In the 83rd minute
disaster struck for Lordswood as they lost possession on the edge of Erith’s penalty area and in a counter attack Hiliare put Braithwaite in and he shot
past Gavin and now the ascendancy was with Erith but just like Saturday the Captain scored the winner but this time in the 90th minute when a throw by
Andy Forster to Sean Hetterley on the by-line saw Sean wriggle past the defender and cross to the far post where Dave Forster on his own headed into the
net.
