Kent Premier League

31st March 2007
Lordswood  1   Erith & Belvedere  2

Today's game was supposed to be a typical end of season game as both teams did not have anything to play for but pride but the Referee Mr Andy Carter provided the entertainment with 8 bookings, 1 sent off and Erith's Chris Cosgrove and Lordswood's Steve Nolan ordered from the bench but the 60 who attended did not see one bad tackle out their.

Both sides had nothing to play for but put on a decent game for the few spectators and in the 2ns minute Erith could have taken the lead when Steve White was put through but strangely for him he hurried his shot and it went wide. In the 8th minute Lordswood had a good chance when a ball into the area was half cleared to Clint Gooding who saw his cross cleared off the line. Erith took the lead in the 15th minute when Lordswood old boy Nick Smith scored, a corner came into the near post where Tony Maycock reacted first and his shot was superbly pushed put by Gavin but unfortunately straight to Smith who smashed home. In the 29th minute Clint saw his free kick which was 8 yards in from the line and on the side sail just over the bar. In the game chances were happening for both sides in an entertaining game and in the 37th minute Michael Collins was put through ran into the area and was just about to pull the trigger when Warren Phillips came in and tackled him. In the 43rd minute Ashley Russell running forward made a cross field pass to Clint in the area and he controlled it and shot but Neil Murray was able to tip it over for a corner and from the resulting corner it was half cleared to Dave Forster on the edge of the area and his shot through a crowd of players beat the keeper but not the defender who cleared it from the line.

The second half was only a minute old when Erith had a free kick on the edge of the area and it was hit straight at the wall but rebounded out to Austin Barclay whose shot from 20 yards went just past the post. Lordswood equalised in the 49th minute when a ball flicked forward saw Ricky Freeman sprint after it and he went into the area around the keeper and slid the ball into the empty net. Two minutes later they could have taken the lead when Ricky on the left passed to Adam Overton who went into the area but was tackled but it came out to Ricky who shot from 18 yards was parried away by the keeper. Belvedere regained the lead in a controversial way when a long ball forward saw Steve White challenge Warren but it looked to everyone in the ground that he pushed Warren and this enabled him to get to the loose ball and shoot home. Belvedere were now in control and in the 71st minute a corner into the area saw Michael Gonzague head just past the post. To Lordswood's credit they still tried to get an equaliser and in the 78th minute Ray Broad on the edge of the area saw his shot pushed around the post by the keeper. The fun and games then began to happen as in the 81st minute Mark Nougher was sent off for his second booking and then Erith's joint Manager Chris Cosgrove was sent from the bench and then Steve Nolan was sent from the bench. The final whistle went in what can only be described as a West End farce with Mr Andy Carter the star.
