Kent Premier League

14th April 2007
Erith Town  5   Lordswood  1

Lordswood cannot wait for the season's end after this embarrassing performance. The Lordswood players must have still been in the dressing room as after one minute they conceded a goal when a cross to the far post which should have been cleared by Gavin came to Mark Tompkins to glance his header in unopposed. In the very next minute it could have been level when Andy Mills crossed into the area for Dave Forster who controlled it and passed to Clint Gooding who from an acute angle 8 yards out blazed his shot wide. Then disaster struck in the 5th minute when Kris Hollidge on the left crossed to the near post where Tompkins beat Warren Phillips to it and headed in. Two minutes later Lordswood could have got a goal back when the ball bobbling around the 18 yards area saw Ashley Russell try his luck but it went over the bar. In the 25th minute Lordswood should have got a goal back as it was easier to score than miss when Clint on the left crossed to the back post where Dave Forster was on his own and from two yards lifted his shot over the bar. The game as far as Lordswood was over in the 43rd minute when Scott Edwards on the left crossed to the far post where Migual Du Cunha was and his header went in despite a valiant effort by Gavin.

The second half saw Lordswood coming out with the Management's comment probably still ringing in their ears and also Warren and Ashley were replaced by Gary East and Andy Forster. The second half was only 3 minutes old when it got worse when Ashley Douglas was in the area on his own and his shot from 12 yards was parried out by Gavin but fell at Mahama Cho who shot in. In the 65th minute Lordswood got what would be a consolation goal when a free kick 30 yards out saw Clint curl it around the wall and into the top right hand corner. As in most games that Lordswood are involved in a bizarre goal happens and in the 70th minute a ball played down the right wing saw the Assistant flag for offside and the ball was in the Lordswood area where Andy Mills picked it up and the Referee had played on and he gave the penalty for handball. Stuart Massey ran up and smashed it straight down the middle nearly breaking the net. The rest of the game was like a slow death for Lordswood and all they wanted to do was get back to the dressing rooms.
