Kent Premier League
9th December 2006
Lordswood 3 Erith Town 0
Lordswood completed consecutive victories for only the second time this season but this time without conceding a goal, this game was a game
of two halves as in the first Erith shaded it but in the second Lordswood took the lead and never looked back.
The game started very slowly but it was Erith who got going first and in the 14th minute a corner to the near post saw Wayne Grizzle’s shot
under pressure hit the crossbar from 5 yards and then two minutes later a long punt up field caused confusion in the Lordswood defence and Grizzle latched
onto it and saw Gavin rushing out of his goal so he lobbed him but luckily for Lordswood it looped up and over the bar. Lordswood’s first chance came in
the 26th minute when Dave Forster on the right passed to Nick Smith just in the area and his curling shot beat the keeper but not Scott Edwards who kicked
it off the line. In the 41st minute Erith nearly took the lead when Mark Tompkins cross was palmed away by Gavin as far as Trevor Lee on the edge of the
area who passed to Scott Edwards and his shot from 15 yards was saved by Gavin’s legs but came out to Edwards but his shot under pressure went wide.
The second half was only three minutes old when Mike McKenna received the ball on the left and he cut inside and curled his shot from 20
yards past the keeper. Lordswood were now buoyant and it is amazing what a goal does for you. In the 61st minute Mike McKenna on the left cut inside beat two
defenders and shot but this time Craig Clarke saved with his legs. Another chance came in the 71st minute when the ball was bobbling outside the area and
Adam Ling instinctly got his shot in but unfortunately it went just over the bar. Lordswood increased their lead in he 78th minute when an Erith corner was
cleared and Gary East from just inside his own half raced forward down he right wing before looking up and passing square to an unmarked Stuart Harrison
who moved inside and curled his shot in from 25 yards. Two minutes later it could have been three when Warren Phillips on the right crossed to the back
post here Andy Forster was and his header from 15 yards forced Craig Clark to save it under the crossbar. In the 83rd minute it went from bad to worse when
Jamie Lover was sent off for a foul on Adam Ling, but things were evened out two minutes later when Ray Broad found himself in the area and his shot was
saved by the keeper it came out but the defender got to it first but Ray stamped on him and was sent off as well.
Erith nearly got a consolation goal when in the 86th minute the ball rebounded into the area and Rob Bryant challenged Gavin for it and
beat him to it but the ball went just past the post. Lordswood got their third in the 89th minute when Sean Hetterley received the ball just inside his
own half and broke down the right wing leaving the defenders for dead and crossed low into the area for Stuart Harrison Lordswood’s new boy and from 15
yards shot in.
