    Lordswood’s interest in this year’s competition ended tonight even though they put up a valiant effort.

    The game was slow to get going with both teams sussing each other out but in the 25th minute the first chance came Lordswood’s way when good interplay on the right saw the ball end up at Adam Douglas’s feet and his shot was saved by James Wastell, then three minutes later Darren Marsden running forward saw his shot go just over the bar. Erith’s first real chance came in the 30th minute when the ball was in the Lordswood area and it ricocheted about until Marcus Cassius got to it and shot home from 6 yards, then two minutes later the ball in the area again saw Dave Milton’s shot superbly saved by Rowen Arnott but it came out to Nick Powell and his shot came back of the post. In the 35th minute a corner to the back post found Player Manager Mark Tompkins who retrieved the ball and shot but again it came back of the post. The last chance of the game came in the 42nd minute when Darren Marsden received the ball 25 yards out and his shot went just past the post.

    The second half again started slowly but Lordswood suddenly got hold of the game and dominated possession and in the 59th minute Alec Osborne received the ball cut inside and shot just wide and then in the 73rd minute Lewis Taylor wide on the left saw his first time cross met by Darren whose shot was save by Wastell and then in the 83rd minute Craig and Darren combined for Darren to shoot but it was saved by the keeper. All the time this was happening Erith relied on the break and in the 88th minute Elliot Pitcher broke away on the right and his cross into the area found Tompkins whose shot across the goal was cleared off the line by Lewis Taylor. In the 90th minute this summed up Lordswood’s night when Scott Bucklen on the edge of the area turned and shot and it looked as if was going into the top of the net but Wastell had other ideas and tipped it over the bar.
