Kent Premier League

8th September 2007
Fvaersham Town  0   Lordswood  3

Lordswood continued their good form in the league with a comprehensive victory over Faversham to climb to ninth in the table.

The result could have been completely different as in the 2nd minute Ricky Freeman ran into the area and was fouled by Lewis Taylor to concede a penalty and up stepped Ian Pulman whose weak effort straight down the middle was easily saved by debutant Rowan Arnott. Lordswood had their first half chance in the 18th minute when David Abe and Martin Difede combined and Martin raced on but keeper Rob Lindley won that race and a minute later another chance came when Lewis Taylor on the left passed to Lee Skinner who from 25 yards turned and shot but it went wide of the post. In the 25th minute a Lordswood corner nearly saw a bizarre own goal as the ball came into the area and Luke Williams saw his back header go towards goal luckily for him Ray Turner cleared it off the line with the keeper no where. Lordswood were now looking good and in the 31st minute an Adrian Bagshaw cross into the area saw David Abe’s header go just past the post. In a rare attack Faversham nearly scored in the 37th minute when Ian Pulman latched on to a long ball and his lofted shot from 20 yards went onto the top of the net. In the 43rd minute Keeper Lindley kept Faversham in the game when a free kick 20 yards out saw Gary Martin pass it sideways for Adam Douglas whose effort was parried away.

In the 46th minute Lordswood should have taken the lead when Gary Martin was put through on the left and he toe poked the ball past the onrushing keeper and the ball ended up with Matt McHugh who from 8 yards blazed the ball over the net. Another chance came in the 50th minute when David Abe was put through into the area and his cross shot went wide of the far post but three minutes later the pressure told as Lordswood took the lead when a corner came in the keeper missed it and David Abe headed back across goal for Martin Difede to smash home from 6 yards. It should have been two when a defensive mix up enabled Davis Abe to run forward into the area but instead of looking up with Martin and Matt on their own he decided to shoot and Lindley was able to save it. Lordswood were now in control as Faversham’s heads seemed to drop and in the 61st minute Adrian Bagshaw decide he wanted to join the party as his 25 yard shot flew just past the post but two minutes later it was two as a Faversham corner to the back post fell at Matt McHugh’s feet and his long ball found Difede who ran on into the area drawing defenders to him and he then passed to David in the area and his shot beat the keeper. Another two minutes passed and the third was scored when a free kick 30 yards out on the left wing was curled into the area by Matt and everyone missed it as it ended up in the net. The rest of the game saw Lordswood go through the motions knowing the victory was theirs.
