Kent Premier League

26th December 2006
Lordswood  1   Faversham Town  1

Lordswood came out meaning business and dominated this match to the extent that Faversham relied on breakaways. The first half saw Lordswood take the game to Faversham although not really troubling the keeper. In the 22nd minute Andy Forster 20 yards out saw his shot deflected but Jurgen Wild saved it. Two minutes later Stuart Harrison crossed to Nick Smith whose shot was saved by the keeper then in the 38th minute the sucker punch arrived as Faversham took the lead in their first real attack, a dubious free kick was given just outside the area and firstly Faversham took it quickly but were called back by the Referee and then second time around floated it into the area and from 5 yards on his own Anthony Pace headed in. Half time arrived and Paul and his management team had some work to do, as they did not deserve to be losing.

The second half continued like the first with Lordswood in control and in the 57th minute Nick Smith received the ball wide on the left shoulder charged Mike Seager and went into the area where Kris Parker came across and fouled him, a penalty was given. Up stepped Nick and his cool shot into the bottom right hand corner gave Lordswood the equaliser. This stunned Faversham, but three minutes later a long ball forward fell at Andy Martin’s feet and his shot from 25 yards was parried away by Gavin but came back to him but he blasted the shot over the bar. In the 62nd minute Ray Broad received the ball just over the halfway line went forward and his shot from 35 yards forced Wild to save at the foot of the post. Faversham nearly took the lead again in the 67th minute when a corner to the back post saw Mike McKenna dilly dally over his clearance and Steve Aslett nipped in and from 8 yards at an acute angle smashed the ball goal bound but Gavin tipped it over the bar, from the resulting corner Lordswood counter attacked and the ball saw Wild have to make a clearance from a back pass but it went straight to Mike McKenna who shot straight away nearly catching Wild out but he saved it.

Faversham were now relying on the breakaway and it nearly worked in the 78th minute when another long ball found Parker running onto it and he went into the area and his shot from 15 yards under pressure from two Lordswood defenders went wide but in the 83rd minute they went inches away from scoring when a free kick into the area saw Brad Maguire head on only to see it come back off the post. The last seven minutes saw Lordswood throw the kitchen sink at Faversham looking for the winner and a few scrambles occurred in the Faversham area.
