Kent Premier League

12th January 2008
Lordswood  1   Faversham Town 2

Lordswood came away without any points after a spirited performance despite being down to ten men for 62 minutes.

The game started off slowly as both teams came to terms with the pitch and then the first chance of the game came in the 15th minute when Darren Marsden 25 yards out saw his volley sail just over the bar. Five minutes later Mike McKenna making his return to Martyn Grove got to the by-line and his cross was met by a flying Dave Luchford but his header was easily saved by Rowan. In the 23rd minute an Adrian cross was deflected out to Lewis Taylor 15 yards out and he controlled it and his shot was superbly pushed over the bar by Rob Hudson. Five minutes later a long throw into the area was flicked on for Tom Hickman but his header went over the bar, then once again a Lordswood match with controversy as in the 28th minute Alec Osborne trying to retrieve possession made a sliding tackle with his studs showing and caught the defender and the Referee sent him off which in one way was no surprise after all the fuss about these tackles. The last chance of the half came in the 41st minute when a corner over to the far post saw Mark Vernon’s volley from 15 yards saved.

The second half started brightly for Lordswood as they forced the pace and in the 55th minute were unlucky not to take the lead when Craig Beckwith passed to Darren Marsden who threaded the ball through for Mark Vernon who out muscled the defender and went into the area and chipped the keeper but the ball went agonisingly wide of the far post. Three minutes later Martin Difede chipped to the far post but it was cleared but straight to him and his volley from 20 yards was saved at the second attempt. Then against the run of play Faversham scored when Dave Luchford’s shot from 18 yards came back of the crossbar and the Matt Carruthers shot from 5 yards was blocked by Rowan and Adrian but came out to Luchford whose shot from 15 yards hit the back of the net. Six minutes later it got worse for Lordswood when Mike McKenna was put through and his chip from 20 yards beat Rowan but came back off the crossbar for Luchford to tap in from 2 feet. Shawn then sent on Lee Farrell and Scott Bucklen to try and get back into the game and in the 83rd minute Lordswood got a goal back when Adrian Bagshaw on the right cut inside went into the area and his shot was fumbled by the keeper and Lee Farrell and he stabbed home. For the last 7 minutes Lordswood threw everything at Faversham to get an equaliser but the closest they came was in the 86th minute when a Lewis Taylor free kick into the area was met by last weeks hero Ben Ashdown but this time his header went over the bar.
