Kent Premier League
21st April 2007
Lordswood 0 Greenwhich Borough 4
Lordswood cannot wait for the season to end after another disappointing performance in front of their own fans. Greenwich came to win and
showed what a good side they are with a great performance. Greenwich got out of the blocks the quickest and in the 7th minute they took the lead when a
cross into the area found Mesmach Nugent on his own and his powerful header from 7 yards beat Gavin. Lordswood had their first real chance in the 13th minute
when the ball on the edge of Greenwich's area came to Dave Forster who controlled it and shot but it was deflected into the path of Ricky Freeman who from 18
yards saw his curling shot get deflected for a corner just going past the post. This seemed to wake Greenwich up and for the rest of the half they dominated
and in the 34th minute they went two up when Peter Smith went on an overlap received the ball went to the by-line and his low cross evaded everyone but Nugent
who nonchalantly back heeled in from 2 yards and three minutes later a ball into the area was allowed to bounce enabling Danny Tipple to shoot and it whistled
past the far post.
Lordswood came out for the second half with bells ringing in their ears after their first half performance and in the 51st minute were
unlucky not to pull a goal back when a corner to the near post saw Ashley Russell flicked header, headed of the line by Danny Tipple and again this woke
Greenwich up and in the 61st minute they increased their lead when a ball into the area was missed by everyone except Danny Tipple who from 8 yards smashed
home, two minutes later another bizarre moment in Lordswood's season occurred when a free kick was given 25 yards out and Gavin was making sure the wall was
in the right place when Ben Yiadom ran up and curled his shot past a startled Gavin. In the 77th minute Nugent smelt a hat trick when he was released on the
right and went into the area but smashed his shot into the side netting with two players on their own in the area waiting for the pass. Lordswood had one
more half chance when Adam Overton on the right received the ball went forward and saw his shot from 25 yards go just past the post. The final whistle went
and off trooped the Lordswood players dejected and glad that there is only one game to go.
