Kent Premier League

20th February 2008
Herne Bay 2   Lordswood 1

Lordswood came away from Winches Field unfortunately pointless with a brave and courageous performance.

The game took a while to get going and the first real chance of the half came in the 25th minute when Darren Marsden threaded the ball through for Scott Bucklen but his shot on the run went high over the bar. Herne bay took the lead in the very next minute with their first real chance when a free kick into the area was punched clear by Rowan only for it to be headed goalwards and Ben Ashdown then headed it off the line but only to Andy Forster who from 10 yards scored his second goal against his old side. Lordswood equalised in the 36th minute when Darren threaded the ball through for Lee Farrell who raced clear saw the keeper off his line and chipped him. In the 44th minute good interplay by Lordswood eventually saw Darren running into the area and his shot was saved by the keeper. In the final minute of the half Lee Farrell latched onto a through ball went into the area and from an acute angle hit the post with the rebound ending up in the keepers midriff.

The second half ebbed and flowed as both sides tried to get in front and in the 52nd minute Darren running forward slipped the ball to Scott on the right wing and his low cross to the back post was met by the stretching Lee Farrell who scooped his shot over the bar. In the 59th minute a Herne Bay breakaway saw Luke Harvey on the edge of the area receive the ball and his shot went just wide of the post. Six minutes later Harvey running forward forced Rowan to push his shot around the post then in the 73rd minute Darren running forward saw his shot from 25 yards saved by the keeper and then in the 83rd minute Harvey saw his shot parried by Rowan who eventually collected the ball at the third attempt under pressure from the Herne Bay forwards then the sucker punch as in the 89th minute a corner into the area was only half cleared and Ben Brown latched onto it and shot home the Lordswood players looked dejected as they deserved to get at least a draw but again concentration levels petered out before the 90 minutes were up.
