Kent Premier League
20th March 2007
Herne Bay 4 Lordswood 0
Lordswood lost this rearranged game but the scoreline did not reflect the game as they did not get the rub of the green.
Herne Bay came out of the blocks quickly as in the 2nd minute a diagonal ball from left to right found Rhys Lawson in on goal but Gavin
came rushing of his line & forced him to shoot over the bar. Lordswood then got their chance in the 7th minute when a cross to the far post saw Lee
Dengate's shot saved by the keeper. Lordswood nearly took the lead in the 13th minute when a Clint Gooding free kick from 20 yards curled around the wall
beating the keeper but not the post. Another chance came Lordswood's way in the 36th minute when Ray in midfield released Ricky Freeman whose shot from 18
yards was saved by Brad Ashmore. The half ended in stalemate but with Lordswood just shading it.
The second started slowly but in the 54th minute Herne Bay took the lead when a corner into the six yard area was headed home by Steven
Lloyd. Two minutes later Lordswood nearly equalised when Stuart Harrison chipped into the area where Clint headed on to Lee Dengate whose shot was
deflected for a corner and two minutes late Herne Bay on the break saw Richard Dimmock receive the ball in the area but his shot was well saved by Gavin
rushing off his line. For the next twenty minutes Lordswood had most of the possession but the rub of the green was not with them as in the 73rd minute a
Clint cross into the area saw a scramble occur in the six yard box and Herne Bay clearing of the line a couple of times and then in the 77th minute Ashley
coming forward passed to Ricky who passed back in the area and from 6 yards his shot went well over the bar when it did seem easier to score and then three
minutes later Ricky controlled a pass looked up and saw his shot go just over the bar then disaster struck as in the very next minute a long ball forward saw
Shaun Pullen pass to Dave Soutan who shot home then in the 85th minute Nigel Pointon in the area saw his first shot blocked by Warren but came back to him
and this time his shot ended in the back of the net. In the last minute just to rub salt into the wound Soutan on the left crossed into the area for Dimmock
unmarked and from six yards shot home.
