Kent Premier League Cup Group A
19th December 2006
Herne Bay 5 Lordswood 0
On a cold foggy December night in Herne Bay Lordswood gave their most inept performance of the season even though it might be added that
they were only playing for pride and after the final whistle even that went out the door.
The score line could have been worse as in the 1st minute Nigel Pointon an old Lordswood player received the ball 20 yards out and his shot
beat Damien Hopkins in goal making his first team debut but came back off the crossbar. The game for the next 35 minutes was even stevens with both sides
enjoying possession but not really doing much but then in the 36th minute a corner into the six yard box was met by Gary Cook and his header flew into the
net. Another chance came Herne Bay’s way in the 41st minute when a long throw to the edge of the area was knocked back into the area by Pointon for Richard
Dimmock whose looping header beat Damien but not the crossbar.
The second half started slowly but Herne Bay increased their lead in the 63rd minute when a corner into the six yard area was headed in by
Dave Soutan. Lordswood’s confidence seemed to be drained by this goal and they could not wait for the final whistle. Herne bay wrapped up the game with three
goals in the last 8 minutes when in the 82nd minute Shaun Bremner crossed to the far post where Danny Cook was and his shot from 15 yards hit the back of
the net, in the 87th minute a long ball forward caught the defence out and Pointon raced on and lobbed Damien and a minute later Soutan beat the offside
trap ran forward and shot past Damien.
