Kent Premier League Cup Group A
2nd September 2006
Lordswood 4 Herne Bay 0
Lordswood ended their goal drought with a demolition of Herne Bay in their first game of the League Cup. They got off to the perfect start
when after 6 minutes they took the lead when Lyndon on the left wing passed to Adam Ling who crossed into the 6 yard box where Dave Forster ghosted in and
headed in unopposed. It got better two minutes later when a free kick into the area was half cleared to Adam Ling whose shot from 20 yards was deflected
into the path of Nick Smith who turned and shot home.
Herne Bay did not know what had hit them and Lordswood were dominant and then in the 28th minute Lordswood went three up when Lyndon
Guscott on half way turned and put Dave Forster in space and he ran forward and his shot was deflected wide but Dave raced after it and went into the
area where he shot past Sebastian Barton. Herne Bay had a couple of half chances just before halftime when Simon Brown’s free kick from 25 yards went
just wide and then Aaron Knight on the edge of the area turned quickly but saw his shot saved by Gavin.
Lordswood came out for the second half brimming with confidence and basically nullified the game by keeping it tight and not allowing
Herne Bay to play. As the game wore on the Lordswood players relaxed and let Herne Bay into the game when in the 68th minute Ben Brown running forward
saw his shot from 25 yards turned around the post by Gavin and in the 70th they thought they had a consolation goal when a free kick under the bar was
headed in but the Referee disallowed it for a foul on Gavin.
In the 73rd minute they should have scored when Aaron Knight beat the offside and raced into the area but his shot from 12 yards was
blocked by Gavin and eventually cleared and then in the 77th minute Lordswood wrapped up the points when Lyndon on the right wing won a tackle and then
put Nick Smith through and he raced clear of the defender and then waltzed around the keeper and slammed the ball into the empty net. Gavin had to make
one more save to keep the clean sheet when in injury time the ball into the area was headed on and Steve Devereux’s header was tipped over the bar.
