Kent Premier League
26th September 2006
Lordswood 3 Herne Bay 3
Lordswood came away with a point with a dramatic equaliser seven minutes from the end to end their midweek run of defeats. Herne Bay came
to Martyn Grove to avenge the 4-0 defeat earlier in the season and in the 7th minute they nearly scored when the ball played into the area after the corner
was half cleared fell at Richard Dimmock’s feet and from 7 yards saw his shot tipped over the bar by Gavin, but in the very next minute Lordswood scored
when Dave Forster passed into Andy Forster’s feet on the edge of the area and he swivelled into the area beat the defender and from an acute angle crossed
low for Adam Overton to poke in from 2 yards.
In the 13th minute it could have been two when Dave Forster running from halfway beat 2 defenders and then saw his shot from 18 yards
parried away by Jack Delo and he got to it before anyone else. Herne Bay got the equaliser in spectacular fashion when in the 18th minute Ronnie O’Connor
running forward from halfway unchallenged hit a shot from 35 yards beating Gavin. They made it two 8 minutes later when O’Connor went down the right wing
and his low cross into the 6-yard box was stabbed home by Dave Soutan. It could have been worse as in the 42nd minute Soutan brought the ball down in the
area turned and shot but Gavin was able to palm away for a corner..
Disaster struck for Lordswood in the very first minute of the second half when Herne Bay scored their third when a cross into the area saw
Aaron Burrett head past Gavin for an OG. Lordswood’s fighting spirit was to show in the 53rd minute when they got a goal back when Ashley Russell coming
out of defence saw his shot stabbed away by the defence but only to Mike McKenna who carried on his recent form and shot past Delo from 20 yards. Herne Bay
were still the better side but were unable to score and they had a few good chances including in the 78th minute Dimmock looking offside went forward
playing to the whistle into the area but his shot was saved by Gavin.
Lordswood got the equaliser in the 83rd minute when Aaron Burrett coming forward looked up and chipped the ball to the far post where Adam
Ling the smallest player on the pitch was and his header from 8 yards beat Delo. Herne Bay had one more glorious chance to win the game in the 89th minute
when Pullen crossed into the area and Soutan rose and from 6 yards directed his header wide. The final whistle went and the hoodoo of midweek games was
over with a great battling performance.
