Kent Premier League
12th April 2008
Lordswood 2 Holmesdale 0
Kevin Phillips finally got his first win as Lordswood manager at the fourth
attempt but probably not in the fashion he would have liked as Lordswood stole the points in a
bad game with Holmesdale playing the batter stuff but Lordswood scored the goals and kept a
clean sheet and maybe with three games to go they can gain confidence from this and go unbeaten.
The first half was really poor with both sides having one chance each, first
Holmesdale in the 8th minute saw the ball into the area for Joel Hughes whose snap shot went
just past the post then in the 43rd minute Lordswood had there chance when Luke Blanshard’s
free kick low into the area caused confusion and Adam Douglas in the six yard box got their
first and stabbed home.
The second half was completely different for Holmesdale as they came out with
something to prove as the half time talk must have ruffled a few feathers but Lordswood still
did not get going but defended well. In the 61dt minute a free kick into the area found Gareth
Broome but his header went over the bar but in the 66th minute they came closer to an equaliser
when Danny McDiamid crossed to the back post where Ted Hart saw his header beat Rowan but not
Adam Douglas who cleared off the line. In the 73rd minute in a rare attack Alec Osborne crossed
into the area for Ben Ashdown who beat the keeper but unfortunately his header went just wide
then in the 77th minute a corner into the area saw Broome’s header saved by Rowan and it came
out to Hart whose header hit the crossbar. The points were wrapped up in the 85th minute when
Alec Osborne was fouled just outside the area centrally and upstepped Adam Douglas to curl the
free kick into the top left hand corner.
