Kent Premier League
30th December 2006
Lordswood 0 Hythe Town 0 Abandoned
Today was the sixth time these teams have met this season with Hythe having the upper hand but Lordswood were out to gain the three points
and a first win against Hythe.
The game started off with light showers and Hythe looked the more likely team to score as in the space of six minutes from the 13th minute
they had chances, first a free kick into the area saw Stuart Taylor’s back flicked header go just past the post then two minutes later Taylor again in the
area headed just over the bar and then in the 19th minute the ball went forward and Roy Godden collected it and saw Gavin 15 yards off his line and his lob
went just past the post. Another chance came in the 26th minute when the ball in midfield came to Godden whose snapshot was parried away by Gavin.
Lordswood’s first chance came in the 38th minute when Nick Smith on the right wing received the ball cut inside and shot forcing Seb Barton to parry it
away.
The second half started with howling winds across the pitch and with the rain lashing down and most people were wondering if we would
finish the game. In the 50th minute Aaron Burrett received the ball and Mick McKenna flicked his cross on but it evaded everyone on the far post. In the
53rd minute Hythe’s John Ovard received the ball on the left and his first time shot flashed across the goal and in the 64th minute John Walker going forward
saw his shot from 20 yards go inches past the post then the Referee with his two Assistants had a meeting on the far side off the pitch and abandoned the
game with 25 minutes to go and to be fair the pitch was getting waterlogged and it would have been a farce if it had carried on so both sides will now have
to meet again.
