Kent Premier League

16th January 2007
Lordswood  0   Hythe Town  4

This was the sixth meeting of these teams this season and Lordswood had the chance to get a win but an inept performance saw them lose and the aggregate score was 2 goals for and 19 against so Lordswood will be glad that they do not have to play Hythe again this season.

It started off so brightly for Lordswood as in the 6th minute a Stuart Harrison Free kick on the edge of the area was palmed away by John Sparkes but straight at Gary East who from 6 yards saw his effort go wide when to most people he should have scored and this epitomises Lordswood’s season. The game was going nowhere for 15 minutes then out of the blue Hythe scored when a long ball forward saw a mix up in the Lordswood defence and Lewis Craddock coming out missed it and Aiden Pursglove nipped in and shot into an empty net. Nine minutes later Roy Godden 25 yards out saw his snapshot parried out by Lewis and Warren Phillips came back and cleared it. Another glorious chance came in the 35th minute when a free kick to Peter Overton on the edge of the area saw his pass rebound to Dave Forster 15 yards out but his weak shot went wide of the post.

The second half took a long time to get going and in the 64th minute Sean Hetterley passed to Peter Overton on the edge of the area and he turned and saw his shot go just past the post. Hythe increased their lead in the 67th minute when Darren Walmsley on the right crossed to the backpost where Michael Smissen was and his header beat Lewis. Hythe were now in control without really causing many problems but in the 80th minute Godden was unlucky not to score when he picked up a loose ball went forward and his shot from 35 yards hit the crossbar, Two minutes later a ball into the area saw Lewis miss it and Smissen head into an empty net and in the 88th minute he completed his hat trick when a ball forward saw him get between the defenders and shoot home from 15 yards.
