F.A Cup Extra Preliminary Round
19th August 2006
Hythe Town 2 Lordswood 2
The road to Wembley or is it Cardiff we will find out in due course but for both teams the dream is still on but Lordswood performed like
Jeckle and Hyde and find themselves lucky to still be in.
The game was only 4 minutes old when Hythe took the lead when a long ball down the middle was missed by the Lordswood defence and Damien
Abel ran on to it in the area and coolly slotted the ball past Gavin, two minutes later another long ball forward but wide on the left enabled Abel to
latch on to it and his cross into the area was eventually cleared. Hythe were running the show and in the 10th minute they nearly increased their lead
when a free kick to the far post found Roy Guiver whose header went just over the bar. In the 25th minute Hythe did increase their lead with a through
ball for Abel to run on to and as he entered the area Gavin had rushed off his line and tried to force him wide but in doing so was adjudged to have
fouled Abel and a penalty was given. Up stepped Jason Brazier and he slotted it in the bottom right hand corner. As the half continued you could see
which team wanted it and half time could not come any quicker for Paul, as his team were woeful in every department.
The second half started with Lordswood aiming to get some pride back after a woeful first half and in the 46th minute a long ball into the
area saw Gary East latch onto it but it seemed his shirt was tugged but no penalty was given, but in the 62nd minute Lordswood got a goal back when Sean
Hetterley wide on the right went on a mazy run into the area and passed to Nick Smith who back heeled back to Sean who was fouled and a penalty was given,
up stepped Nick and he slotted it into the bottom right hand corner.
Lordswood were now on a high and Hythe seemed down and hoping for the final whistle but in the 67th minute Dan Barham went into area
beating two defenders but from 10 yards shot wide. Then came the goal of the game as Lordswood equalised in the 83rd minute when Adam Ling retrieving
the ball knocked it back into the area for Nick whose control was immaculate to turn on a sixpence and shoot home. Hythe in a rare attack a
minute later saw Dan Fisk’s shot from 20 yards tipped over the bar for a corner by Gavin. The final whistle went and both teams have to do it again at
Martyn Grove on Tuesday with a 7:45 kick off.
