John Ullman Cup Round 3

March 25th 2007
Lordswood U/18  2   Margate U/18  2
AET 5-4 Lordswood Win On Penalties

Lordswood U18's continue to impress as high flying Margate found out to their cost. Despite being the underdogs Lordswood took the game to Margate from the off. Andre Marques, Scott Gilman and Ben White all failed to score with great chances and Lewis Taylors thunderous 30 yarder was brilliantly tipped over the bar by the visiting keeper. The second half continued in the same vein but Lords were stunned when Margate took the lesd against the run of play. They rallied ,however, and deservedly equalised when Ben Ashdown followed up his initial effort and fired home. Extra time saw Lordswood regain the iniative when David Abe scored after fine work by Andre Marques. Again opportunities were wasted to finish the tie and when Ben White's effort rebounded off the post one wondered if there was going to be a final twist in this pulsating tie. Sure enough Margate's battling qualities shone through and they equalised to send the tie to penalties. Sam Leadsham the Lordswood keeper once again showed his worth in these situations and saved the decideing penalty. With table-topping Sheppy Utd awaiting the winners in the Quarter Finals Scott Gilman held his nerve to win the tie.
