Kent Premier League
5th September 2006
Sevenoaks Town 3 Lordswood 1
Lordswood go from one extreme to another as tonight’s result shows, Sevenoaks had lost in the Cup on Saturday and came out wanting to put
things right and in the 12th minute a cross to the back post found Atkins whose header goal wards was cleared of the line by Lee Dengate for a corner.
Lordswood woke up and in the 15th minute were awarded a penalty after Adam Ling put the ball into the area for new boy Mike McKenna (signed
from Gravesend and Northfleet ) to chase and he beat the keeper to it but his legs were clipped, he stepped up to take the penalty but his woeful effort
was easily saved by Joe Skillman but two minutes later the goal of the season was scored when Mike Cunningham chased a defender down and nicked the ball
off him and looked up and saw the keeper off his line and lobbed him from 45 yards.
Lordswood were now in control without causing any problems to Sevenoaks and then in the 27th minute Sevenoaks equalised when Dalton went
into the area and forced Gavin to parry his shot goal wards for Atkins to stab home. They nearly took the lead when a bad back pass allowed Dalton to latch
onto it and he raced into the area and as he was about to shoot Lee Dengate came across and under pressure saw his shot hit the outside of the post.
The second half was a bit of a non event as both sides cancelled each other out and then in the 61st minute Sevenoaks scored when the ball
played into the area found Frankie Whitehead who shot home, Lordswood nearly got an equaliser in the 75th minute when a free kick into the area was half
cleared and Dave Forster saw his snap shot go over the bar. As Lordswood pressed forward they left gaps at the back and in the 83rd minute Charlie Hope
ran from halfway into the area and then shot but Gavin had come off his line and parried it away and two minutes later Atkins received the ball on the
left and his shot from 15 yards was parried away by Gavin but in the 87th minute Sevenoaks secured the three points when Michael Cook got to the by-line
and crossed low causing panic in the Lordswood defence and Hope on the back post stabbed home.
