Kent Senior Trophy - 2nd Round

25th November 2006
Lordswood  1   Sevenvoaks Town  2

Lordswood’s chances of silverware finished at the first attempt in the Kent Senior Trophy as a woeful performance put an end to it. This was a game that Lordswood could have won with home advantage and coming off three good performances against the top three sides in the league but for some reason it did not happen. Sevenoaks had the first real chance of the game in the 12th minute when Rayfield received he ball at the backpost 10 yards out controlled and shot but Gavin coming out fast saved it with his legs. Two minutes later Dalton on the left cut in and shot from 20 yards, which forced Gavin to save at his near post.

Sevenoaks deservedly went in front in the 18th minute when the ball came in to the area and was deflected into the path of Bishop who from 6 yards out poked the ball past Gavin. The visitors were now on top and were looking dangerous but it took a long time for their next real chance when in the 38th minute a crossfield pass was deflected into the path of Cook by Steve Sharp and his shot from 20 yards saw Gavin push it over the bar for a corner. Disaster struck in the 45th minute when a corner came over which was deflected away but the shot came in and Gavin had it for one second and then the next saw Rayfield tap in from 2 yards.

The main question being asked at halftime was could Lordswood get back but it would need a 100% improvement but in the 53rd minute the chance came to get one back when the ball forward bounced awkwardly for the defenders and Gary East latched onto it but his composure let him down as he blasted over the bar. Sevenoaks nearly killed the game off in the 55th minute when Dalton in the area went round Gavin but from an acute angle shot over. Another chance came in the 64th minute when Nick Smith on the left crossed low to Alan Backshall but he snatched at it and the chance went, but 9 minutes later Lordswood got back into the game when Nick on the left crossed low into the area which caused confusion and Alan Backshall 3 yards out shot home. Sevenoaks were now trying to see time out and Lordswood had suddenly woken up to the fact that they could force an equaliser and maybe a winner and this was partly due the Subs who came on in the 60th minute (Alan and Aaron).

Sevenoaks again nearly killed the game off in the 80th minute when Bishop running forward from halfway saw his shot from 20 yards deflected into the path of Jones-Butler but Gavin came out and redeemed himself and saved it. Lordswood threw everything at Sevenoaks in the last 5 minutes and in the 85th minute Adam Ling on the left crossed into the area was half cleared to Nick Smith whose shot from the edge of the area was cleared off the line and then in the 87th minute a free kick on the edge of the area was taken by Nick but was saved at the foot of the post by Joe Skillman. Another year goes by without a decent Cup run.
