John Ullman Cup Quarter Final

April 11th 2007
Lordswood U/18  1   Margate U/18  1
AET 2-1 Lordswood Win On Penalties

Underdogs Lordswood U/18's knocked one of the best sides in Kent out of the John Ullmann cop in another pulsating cup tie. Sheppy Utd suffered only their second defeat of the season and found Lordswood a different proposition to the side they beat comprehensively 4 - 0 in the Kent Youth Cup. Sheppy could only produce their superb football in limited spells as Lordswood chased and harried them all night. Sam Leadsham saved brilliantly to deny the Division South leaders an early lead and a couple of well timed tackles from Tom Light denied them opportunities. Lordswood battled superbly with Ben White and Jim Coulson contesting midfield like their lives depended on it. Dale Kitcheners determination paid dividends when he fired home to give the home side the lead at half time. Sheppy, to their credit, fought back strongly and equalised early in the second half but Lordswood refused to be intimidated and matched their opponents in every department. With Jamie Lee and Scott Gilman a constant threat up front and Lewis Taylors surgeing runs from defence Lordswood gave a superb account of themselves. The introduction of substitute Andre Marques was to change the course of the game. His excillerating pace frightening the life out of the Sheppy defence. Into extra-time and Andre needed no second chance with a one on one to slot home and give Lordswood the lead for the second time. Sheppy battled back strongly and hit the bar and post in the dying minutes but Lordswood held on for a fabulous victory.
