Kent Premier League

22nd December 2007
Lordswood 1   Slade Green  1

Lordswood lost 2 points today after being down to ten men for 52 minutes after giving a battling performance but in the end fitness told and getting a point probably meant more this time as last time they went down to ten men when they lost 2-0 after being the better side for 90% of the game.

The game between both sides struggling in the bottom half of the league saw an entertaining encounter as both sides tried to play football on a boggy pitch but when they got near the goal they forgot what they had to do. Lordswood started the better and in the 5th minute Darren Marsden running from halfway went past a couple of defenders but stabbed his shot wide then the game went quiet as both sides squandered possession away then in the 25th minute Jamie Taylor on the left wing cut inside and slid the ball forward for Darren whose shot from 25 yards went past the post. In the 28th minute Craig Beckwith with an exquisite cross field pass found Jamie Taylor who went into the area and his cross shot just evaded the far post. Slade Green finally had a chance when Paul Springett saw his shot from 25 yards out fly past the post. Then in the 37th minute a moment of madness by Craig Beckwith was sent off for kicking out at an opponent in front of the Referee after he was fouled, but this seemed to help Lordswood as the free kick taken by Slade Green was intercepted by Martin Difede who looked up and sent Lee Farrell through and as the keeper Chris Peck came rushing out of his area Lee chipped it past him and into the empty net.

The second half started with Slade Green in the ascendancy with the one man advantage and in the 53rd minute a free kick 25 yards out was superbly saved by a flying Rowen Arnott although there were no Television cameras about. In the 58th minute Lordswood had a great chance to increase there lead when Martin Difede on the right wing crossed into the area for Jamie Taylor who from 15 yards stabbed his shot straight at the keeper. In the 69th minute Slade Green were unfortunate not to equalise when a free kick into the area saw Rowen’s punch go upwards instead of out and a scramble occurred with shots being blocked and cleared off the line. In the 75th minute Lordswood should have secured the points when Martin put Lee Farrell in and his chip was half saved by the keeper but it went straight to Adrian Bagshaw who from 10 yards saw his shot saved by the keeper. Then in the 77th minute Lee Woodyard saw his shot from 25 yards cannon off the crossbar but in the very next minute they did score when Lee Barnett running across the field passed to Rapheal Akala in the area and his shot from 10 yards beat Rowen. The rest of the game saw Lordswood defend for their lives as suddenly Slade Green realised they had a one man advantage and came at Lordswood but in the end the result was probably right although both teams might feel different about it.
