Kent Premier League
16th September 2006
Slade Green 4 Lordswood 1
Lordswood have still to get a victory away from home and after today’s performance it could be some time. Slade Green nearly took the lead
after 36 seconds when Terry Murphy on the right wing crossed and Gavin was forced to tip over the bar. In the 9th minute they did take the lead when Jason
Clews found himself on his own in the six yard box and his first shot came back off the post but straight back to him and this time he made no mistake. In
the 23rd minute it could have been two when Titus Murphy’s free kick into the area found Paul Gross whose header was saved by Gavin.
At this stage of the game Lordswood were lethargic and were making it easy for Slade Green but in the 25th minute they came to life when a
corner into the area was half cleared and Sean Hetterley retrieved it and turned and shot in one movement but his shot went over the bar. Six minutes later
Sean and Mike McKenna combined for Sean to get to the by-line and his low cross evaded everyone including Dave Forster on the far post, then in the very
next minute Dave Forster and Sean on the edge of the area challenging for the ball and the ball went forward into the area for Sean whose shot hit the side
netting. Another chance went a begging in the 40th minute when Andy Mills floated a free kick into the area and Dave Forster’s flicked header went wide.
Lordswood continued where they had left off from the first half and in the 46th minute Andy Forster on the left crossed into the near post
where Sean was standing but his header went wide. In the 51st minute a Andy Mills free kick into the area was met by Andy Forster’s head but it went over
the bar. In the 57th minute Aaron Burrett passed to Adam Ling who passed inside to Sean in the area he went to the by-line and saw his shot parried away
by James Tedders. Slade Green up to now had been as bad as Lordswood were in the first 25 minutes but in the 59th minute they went two up when a throw
adjacent to the penalty area came to Tom Morgan who from 20 yards saw his shot fly into the net leaving Gavin grasping at thin air. Lordswood had a chance
to half the deficit when Mike McKenna’s free kick just outside the penalty area curled round the wall and but just past the post.
Another glorious chance came in the 65th minute when Aaron Burrett crossed to the backpost where Andy Mills was unopposed but he sent his
header wide. In the 76th minute game over as Titus Murphy latched onto a long ball and went into the area and shot past Gavin. A minute later Lordswood
could have had a consolation goal when Sean passed to Adam Overton in the area but from 12 yards his hurried shot went well wide summing up the afternoon.
It got worse when in the 79th minute Jason Clews ran onto a ball into the area and again shot past Gavin, four minutes later and it could have been five
when Clews running forward this time lobbed Gavin but fortunately it went past the post. In the 88th minute Lordswood got a consolation goal when McKenna
running forward saw his shot from 25 yards fly into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
