Kent Premier League Cup Group A
4th November 2006
Lordswood 0 Slade Green 1
Lordswood woeful run continued and they look as if they are not going to qualify for the quarterfinals after 3 defeats in a row in this
competition. The game was very scrappy for the first 20 minutes with both teams looking to get their games going and in the 21st minute Nick Smith
controlled the ball turned and put Mike McKenna in but his shot from 20 yards went across the goal beating the keeper and the far post. Slade Green opened
the scoring with their first real attack in the 27th minute when a corner came over into the six yard box and Paul Gross the tallest player on the pitch
rose unopposed and headed in.
Lordswood nearly equalised two minutes later when a free kick into the area saw Mike’s header come back off the post and came out but was
hacked away for another corner. Slade Green should have increased their lead in the 33rd minute when Jack Baines on the left went down the wing and his
cross into the six yard box saw John Paul McKey on his own stab the ball straight at Gavin when it seemed easier to score. In the 38th minute Mike running
forward saw his shot turned around the post for a corner by the keeper and from the resulting kick the keeper punched clear but only to Andy Forster
who from 18 yards saw his hooked shot go blazing over the bar.
In the very first minute of the second half Lordswood nearly committed suicide when Gary East’s misdirected header went straight to McKey
who seeing Gavin off his line chipped a shot just over the bar. Another chance came in the 51st minute when an Andy Mills free kick into the area
was half cleared to Ray Broad but the keeper tipped his shot over the bar. In the 65th minute Mike dispossessed the defender went forward passed out wide to
Nick Smith whose shot from 15 yards was saved by the keepers legs, in the very next minute Lordswood did have the ball in the net when Mike’s shot was
parried out by Key but straight to Nick who shot home but unfortunately he was flagged offside.
Two minutes later nice interplay by Gary and Adam enabled Ray to shoot but again it went well over and with twelve minutes left Paul sent
on John Gissing to try and get an equaliser if not a winner and John had a couple of half chances but to no avail but in the 88th minute a ball into the
area saw John head the ball forward for Adam Ling who from 2 yards on the angle head weakly towards goal and Key made an easy save.
