Kent Premier League

27th August 2007
Lordswood 6   Sporting Bengal 0

Lordswood finally got the goals that they had promised but as of lately had not delivered and Shawn was a happy man.

The game started slowly with both sides looking edgy but in the 15th minute that changed for Lordswood when a corner into the middle of the area bounced around and was half cleared to Lee Martin on the edge of the area and his shot was fumbled by Matt Dilworth where Danny Malone pounced on it and shot home for his first of the season. In the 23rd minute Alan Backshell battling for the ball in the area saw his intended pass to Alec Osborne end up at Lee Martin’s feet on the edge of the area and his shot went in. It should have been three in the 27th minute when Lee Martin from halfway raced away into the area went around the keeper but then hesitated and the ball span up in the air where the keeper collected it. Sporting in a rare attack nearly got a goal back in unusual circumstances when a long ball forward forced Ben Chell to hack the ball away but it went towards goal and came back off the crossbar, then in the 32nd minute Danny Malone released Lee Martin who raced clear of the defenders and went into the area and shot home.

The fourth goal came right on halftime when Ben Chell passed long for Alan Backshell in the area and as Alan attempted to cross it was handballed and a penalty was given, up stepped Alec Osborne who shot straight down the middle. The second half was only 30 seconds old when Lee Martin on the left wing saw his cross beat the new keeper but come down off the crossbar. It should have been five in the 48th minute when Lee Martin put Matt McHugh through and he ran to the by-line before passing to Lee Martin who’s first time shot went past the post. Sporting nearly pulled a goal back when a free kick centrally placed 20 yards out saw Siam Uddin’s kick go round the wall forcing Stefan to push it around the post for a corner. Another chance came their way in the 58th minute when a cross into the area was met by Uddin’s head but again the crossbar came to the rescue.

In the 66th minute Lordswood increased there lead when a throw in to Alan Backshell in the area saw him tripped and a penalty given, up stepped Adam Douglas to side foot into the bottom right hand corner. Adrian Bagshall nearly scored the goal of the game in the 76th minute when he received the ball 40 yards out and went forward and saw his blockbuster shot from 35 yards out saved by the keeper. In the 82nd minute Lordswood got their sixth when a corner was punched clear but only to Lewis Taylor who crossed to Alan Backshell who chested it and volleyed home from 8 yards. The final whistle went and you could see the confidence oozing out of all of the players and ready for Saturday’s FA Cup match at Selsey.
