Kent Premier League
1st March 2008
Sporting Bengal 0 Lordswood 0
Lordswood came away from the Mile End Stadium wondering how they did not pick
up all three points as the dominated the game especially the second half but a Referee’s
decision and woeful finishing saw the 0-0 score line.
The game was played in blustery conditions but both sides tried to play football
but Sporting Bengal with the run they have been on tried to use spoiling tactics when in
defence. The first chance of the game came in the 9th minute when Lewis Taylor on the left
galloping forward saw his cross go to close to the keeper but he keeper Zamen fumbled it over
the bar for a corner. The game went very quiet with both defences on top but in the 29th minute
Lordswood should have taken the lead when Lewis Taylor on the left received the ball and went
into the area and his shot was kicked away by the keeper but straight to Lee Farrell who from 5
yards shot over the bar. In the 38th minute Craig Beckwith threaded the ball through for Lewis
Taylor who once in the area shot but the keeper saved it. In the 44th minute a Lewis corner
into the 6 yards area saw Adam Douglas rise but his header went over the bar and then in the
last minute Scot Bucklen was sent through and the keeper came rushing out of his area and Scott
chipped from 26 yards out on the left but it went agonisingly past the far post.
The second half was only seconds old when a Lewis Taylor free kick into the
area was headed goalwards by Danny Malone but was deflected for a corner. Six minutes later
Difede picked the ball up and passed to Adam Douglas who went forward and his goal bound shot
from 20 yards was deflected for a corner. The contentious decision that cost Lordswood the
points came in the 62nd minute when Lee Farrell received the ball on the left beating the
offside trap and he then went forward into the area and looked up and passed to Darren Marsden
who shot into an empty net but the Assistant Referee gave offside which bemused everyone in the
ground. Two minutes later a quick free kick was passed to Darren Marsden who went into the area
and his shot was pushed over the bar by the keeper. The rest of the game saw Lordswood trying
to get the goal that would win the game but passes went astray and Sporting defended in numbers
and with Lordswood coming forward in numbers there was always the chance that a breakaway could
happen but fortunately for them Sporting Bengal did not have any chances of note. The positives
to come out was that it is two games without defeat and a clean sheet.
