Kent Premier League

12th August 2006
Lordswood  2   Sporting Bengal Utd  0

Lordswood started the season with three points with the performance a lot to be desired but as we all know you don’t always get both.

The game started off slowly and with the rain falling making it hard for both set of players, the first real chance came in the 22nd minute Manning ran from the halfway line beating the offside and went towards goal and just as he was about to shoot Ashley Russell racing back came across and made a block tackle on him and conceded a corner. A minute later Lordswood responded when Gary East put Nick Smith through but Helel Uzzamin easily saved his shot. In the 31st minute Gary East latched onto a rebound and saw is shot from an acute angle beat the keeper but comeback off the post. In the 35th minute a Sporting free kick into the area by Abdul Ali was headed just wide and the next minute Khan ran forward from the halfway again beating the offside but his shot from 20 yards went wide.

In the 52nd minute Khan running forward from halfway turned Ashley on the edge of the area and saw his shot destined for the top right hand corner superbly turned over the bar by Gavin Hopper. Sporting were now in the ascendancy and in the 69th minute a free kick into the Lordswood area was half cleared to Uddin whose lobbed shot went just wide. This must have woken Lordswood up as for the last twenty minutes they were the team in control, in the 71st minute Gary East latched onto a clearance and saw his snapshot go just wide and then in the 73rd minute a throw to Bob Chiverton who passed to Dave Forster who went into the area but his shot went over the bar. In the 76th minute Paul threw caution to the wind when he brought on Andy Mills and sent Lyndon Guscott up front and in the 79th minute it nearly paid dividends as Uzzamin’s goal kick went straight to Lyndon who went forward and saw his shot under pressure turned around by the keeper for a corner.

In the 83rd minute another chance came when Steve Sharp on the edge of the area chipped forward to Dave Forster who avoided the Keepers challenge but unfortunately went wide and shot into the side netting and everyone connected with Lordswood thought they would never score but a minute later Bob and Dave combined and then passed to Lyndon whose shot from 20 yards flew into the net then three minutes later a superb goal for Guscott as Dave Forster running forward passed out to Lee Dengate on the left who beat the defender by cutting inside and then releasing Lyndon inside the area on the left and his shot with the outside of the boot flew in. Sporting nearly got a consolation goal when Baptiste ran forward into the area but shot past Gavin and the post. The final whistle went and Paul can be content with the result but maybe the performance has a few more gears to go.
