Kent Premier League
14th October 2006
Lordswood 2 Tunbridge Wells 1
Lordswood got their just reward today but left it late to take the three points. It all started horribly for Wood as in the 5th minute
Tunbridge Wells took the lead when a long ball downfield saw the defence and Gavin let it bounce and Alex Rich latched onto the hesitancy and half volleyed
past Gavin from 15 yards. Two minutes later Lordswood could have equalised when Aaron Burrett’s floated cross to the edge of the area found Andy Foster who
controlled it and went across goal and his shot went past the keeper but Andy Garrett came from nowhere and cleared of the line. Lordswood had another
chance go a begging in the 15th minute when a corner to the back post saw Aaron head it downwards for Mike McKenna whose shot from an acute angle 8 yards
out went over the bar. Lordswood nearly got caught out again when in the 22nd minute a long ball forward saw Dave Blundell run on but this time his shot
went over the bar. The rest of the half was pretty even with both sides not causing any problems.
The second half saw Lordswood come out fired up after a stern talking to at halftime and in the 55th minute they deservedly got the
equaliser when first Sean Hetterley’s cross on the right was blocked but came back to Steve Sharp who went past the defender and crossed to the near
post for Dave Forster to nip in and head home. Three minutes later Wells nearly regained the lead when Joe Fuller on the right beat three defenders went
to the by-line and his low cross was somehow stabbed wide of the post with the goal at their mercy. Lordswood suddenly tightened up at the back and went in
search of the winner and in the 65th minute Mike McKenna dispossessed the defender went forward and his sweetly struck shot saw Jim Simpson parry it
skywards and collected it at the second attempt. Five minutes later Mike came closer when the ball played into the area found him and his shot came back
of the bar/post.
All Lordswood’s hard work nearly came to nothing as in the 83rd minute a ball into the edge of the area was miskicked by Andy Forster and
Joe Fuller latched onto it but his shot was saved by Gavin’s legs. Then in the 89th minute all the hard work and perseverance came off as a free kick on
the left level with the penalty area was floated into the area by Aaron Burrett for Sean Hetterley who flicked it on and it came to Dave Forster on the far
post who controlled it and smashed home.
