Tunbridge Wells 3 Lordswood 2
Lordswood came away from the Culverden stadium pointless but with only themselves to blame for a inept defensive performance in the second
half.
The game started with Lordswood on the front foot and in the 7th minute Clint Gooding flicked the ball forward for Ray Broad and his shot
from 18 yards was blocked by the onrushing keeper, five minutes later a free kick taken quickly caught the Tunbridge Wells side out and Clint latched onto it
but his shot was saved by the alert keeper Jim Simpson. Lordswood eventually took the lead in the 16th minute which their pressure deserved when Stuart
Harrison picked up a loose ball went forward across the pitch and from 20 yards saw his shot parried out by the Simpson but straight to Adam Ling who shot
home from 10 yards. In the 26th minute Stuart again went forward and his shot from 20 yards was this time pushed around the post for a corner. Three minutes
later and Lordswood nearly increased their lead in a weird way when Sean Hetterley on the right beat the defender and his cross deceived the keeper and went over
him but came back into play via the back post. Tunbridge Wells first chance of the game came in the 38th minute when Dave Hassett broke away and passed
inside only to see it half cleared to Luke Wallond and his shot from 25 yards flew just over the bar.
The second half was only a minute old when Tunbridge Wells equalised when a ball was crossed into the area and Gavin went for it under
pressure and spilled it for Dave Hassett to stab home from 8 yards. This gave Wells confidence and they then dominated possession for the next 15 minutes
without causing to many problems and then Lordswood suddenly came back to life and in the 63rd minute Gary East on the left passed inside to Ray Broad whose
shot from 25 yards was fumbled by the keeper but he got away with it and then in the 74th minute Lordswood regained the lead with a Ricky Freeman free kick
from 25 yards as he curled it around the wall beating the keeper easily. Lordswood now looked the likely winners but the old saying says its not over until
the fat lady sings and in the 80th minute Wells equalised when a cross into the area saw Gavin clash with Ashley Russell and the ball looped out to Dave
Hassett who volleyed in from 6 yards. Three minutes later it became worse as a long throw into the Lordswood area was headed on by Andy Forster evading
everyone except Dave Hassett on the far post and he stabbed home from a yard to score his and Wells third. Lordswood's heads were now in a spin as they knew
that they had the three points in the bag but had blown it and it could have been worse when in the 90th minute Hassett broke through into the area and but his
shot was smothered by Gavin.
