VCD Athletic 10th March 2007
VCD Athletic  3   Lordswood  0

Lordswood came to Oakwood with renewed confidence after last weeks performance but put in an inept first half performance but regained a little pride with the second but still came away with a defeat. VCD came out of the blocks quickly and in the 3rd minute were gifted a goal when Warren Phillips back pass was intercepted by Leroy Huggins who went round Gavin and slotted into the net. Three minutes later a long ball forward saw Sinden run on and his shot from 20 yards whistled past the post. VCD were on the front foot and dictating play with Lordswood relying on breakaway’s and in the 22nd minute they scored their second in contentious manor when a shot from 20 yards was deflected sideways but ended at Lee Coburn’s feet and looking well offside he smacked home from 2 yards.

Lordswood had their first chance in the 25th minute when Gavin’s free kick was half cleared to Andy Forster whose shot from 20 yards whistled past the post. In the 28th minute a most bizarre incident happened when Steve Hogg moving forward saw his shot from 25 yards tipped onto the crossbar by Gavin but bounced down on/over the line with only the Assistant Referee seeing what happened and to every one’s surprise he gave a goal. Lordswood had one more chance in this most inept 45 minutes of the season when Ashley Russell moving out of defence passed out wide to Andy Forster who passed inside to Mark Chiverton whose shot from 22 yards went just past the post.

The half time talk for both sides must have been chalk and cheese as Paul must have let rip with the performance and told them they were playing for pride where Martin Ford must have said more of the same please.

The second half started slowly but Lordswood seemed to be playing at a better pace and must have taken on board Paul said and in the 63rd minute Alex Hyde’s clearance went straight to Clint Gooding who from25 yards shot straight away but it went just past the post with the keeper beaten then two minutes later Sean Hetterley on the edge of the area passed to Clint in the area wide on the left but his shot was easily saved. In the next minute Lordswood had another chance when a free kick into the area saw Dave Forster’s stabbed shot saved by the keeper. Three minutes later Clint’s free kick curled around the wall but went just wide of the post. Lordswood were now playing better although he could be said that VCD had taken their foot of the pedal, then in the 76th minute a rare VCD attack saw the ball come across in the area for Stuart Abbott to volley but Gavin saved it then another disaster hit Lordswood when Mark Chiverton was forced to leave the pitch with a bad ankle injury and as Lordswood had used all their subs they had to finish the game with 10 men. The last real chance of the game came in the 78th minute when Ashley Probets crossed to the back post for Sinden who controlled it and shot but Gavin was able to easily save it. The game finished and Lordswood at least had some pride back even if they had lost.
