Lordswood  1   VCD Athletic  3

Lordswood winning run came to an end today against VCD with a very unlike performance compared to the last two games.

VCD came out of the blocks straight away continuing their good form when in the 3rd minute a corner came over and was headed goalwards but Andy Mills on the line cleared but in the 11th minute they did score when a Lordswood move broke down and VCD countered quickly when Ashley Probets cross field pass to Steve Taylor on the right and he went on and shot past Gavin from 20 yards. Lordswood were not at the party and were hanging on for 20 minutes as VCD came forward and dominated possession but in the 23rd minute Lordswood nearly equalised when Gary East Tuesday’s Hat trick hero was put through on goal and he ran to the edge of the area and tried to chip the onrushing Grant Wallis but he saved it and it rebounded out to Mike McKenna twelve yards out but his rushed shot went over the bar.

In the 27th minute Lordswood did equalise when Gavin’s free kick to the edge of the area was cleared but only to Steve Sharp who headed forward into the path of Mike McKenna and this time he took his time and coolly shot past the keeper. Gavin came to the rescue in the 38th minute when Mark Greatorex got to the by-line and his cross shot was deflected causing Gavin to twist and push away. In the next minute Lordswood could have taken the lead when a free kick into the area saw Dave Forster rise above everyone and his header saw the keeper scramble down to his post to save.

The last chance of the half went Lordswood’s way when in the 43rd minute Sean Hetterley on the right beat the defender and his shot across goal evaded everyone accept Mike McKenna on the far post but his shot off balance was cleared of the line when a goal looked certain.

The second half started like the first with VCD in control and in the 50th minute Juan Ramirez broke through ran on towards goal but Gavin came out and forced him wide and his shot from an acute angle hit the side netting. Lordswood in a rare attack in the 55th nearly took the lead when Sean’s cross into the area found Mike and his header was deflected goal bound but Wallis was able to grab it. In the very next minute VCD took the lead when Ramirez was again put through and from 18 yards his shot was parried out by Gavin but to Steve Taylor who smashed the ball home.

Six minutes later it became three when a corner into the area was flicked on for Mark Greatorex who from 6 yards on his own headed in. VCD were now in control and they had one more chance to increase their lead when in the 78th minute Steve Taylor on the right received the ball went forward cut inside and his shot went just past the post.
