Kent Premier League
29th March 2008
Lordswood 0 VCD Athletic 4
Lordswood lost out to title chasing VCD but for 45 minutes and one major
decision the result might have been different.
The game started with both teams having to get use to the windy and soft
pitch which was cutting up nicely as the game wore on. VCD took the lead in the 11th minute
when Danny Penny VCD ‘s inspirational skipper received the ball on the edge of the area and he
dummied the defender before curling his shot past Rowan. The very next minute saw Lewis Taylor
on the left cross into the area which was half cleared to Darren Marsden who went into the area
but unfortunately shot wide. In the 17th minute came the decision that might have changed the
game when Darren’s free kick into the area saw Sam Phillips shot blocked on the line by Ashley
Probets but it looked like he used his hands but the Referee played on. The game ebbed and
flowed with both teams trying to play football in the horrible conditions and in the 36th
minute Danny Penny tried his luck from 30 yards but Rowan acrobatically tipped over the bar.
The second half started slowly but in the 54th minute VCD extended their lead
when Gary Ward running forward passed inside Adrian Bagshaw for Jack Parkinson who stabbed the
ball past the rushing Rowan into the net. The game was now over and it was how the Lordswood
players would react. VCD were in total control and in the 59th minute Probets moving forward
from defence tried his luck from 25 yards but it sailed just over the bar. Then in the space of
two minutes the score became four when in the 78th minute a long throw into the area was
flicked on by Parkinson to the back post where Richard Sinden was and he poked home and then in
the very next minute Stephen Hogg just on as a sub collected a bad clearance and from 30 yards
he controlled and shot home. The game petered out to the end but for VCD the title chase is
still on and for Lordswood another 5 games to go until the season end.
